Dustin Poirier launches whiskey company to rival Conor McGregor’s Proper 12

UFC star Dustin Poirier has launched a whiskey company called 'Rare Stash' to rival Conor McGregor 's company Proper 12.

Poirier's Rare Stash Bourbon comes in a 750ml bottle, costs $100 and is only available in 18 US states.

The top UFC lightweight contender revealed the announcement in a recent video he posted on Twitter.

"What's up man, I just want to say thank you to all my fans across the world, thank you for the love and support over the years," he said in the video.

"I'm excited to introduce you guys to my Rare Stash, check it out."

Rare Stash also sells merchandise on their website, with a t-shirt listed at $30 whilst a hat will set you back $32.

The launch of Poirier's company comes three years after McGregor launched his Proper 12 whiskey brand ahead of his UFC title fight with rival Khabib Nurmagomedov.

McGregor's whiskey was a huge success and it led to him selling his majority stake in the company to Proximo Spirits in a deal worth a reported £106million.

The deal saw McGregor top Forbes' 2021 highest-paid athlete list, having come in the fourth in the list three years prior after his megafight with Floyd Mayweather.

Former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub got his hands on Poirier's whiskey before the official release and was clearly a fan of it.

He wrote on Instagram : "My guy Dustin Poirier dropped his new bourbon an it's DAMN good! Congrats my man. Get it THIS FRIDAY."

Poirier also launched his own hot sauce brand in affiliation with Heartbeat Hot Sauce, creating 'Poirier’s Louisiana Style' sauce before his rematch with McGregor at UFC 257.

'The Diamond' trolled McGregor after his TKO win at the event by releasing a 'KO' edition of the sauce.

In his second bid to win the undisputed lightweight title, Poirier came up short against Charles Oliveira at UFC 269 and hinted at retirement after the fight.

“I can do anything I put my mind to. I can fight for another belt, I can go on another streak, I can claw and climb and get back to wherever I want to be," he said after the loss.

"It’s just, do I want to? That’s the question I’ve got to look in the mirror and answer. Do I want to do it again?

"Do I want to go down that road again? That answer will come in the next couple days or couple weeks."

Poirier has since U-turned on those comments and agreed to fight fan favourite Nate Diaz, but the bout has since been shelved by the UFC.
