Dustin Poirier adds Tony Ferguson to list of UFC names he’d like to face next

Dustin Poirier is eager to get back in there and he’s not looking for a gimme fight.

After Tony Ferguson called out UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov for a Dec. 14 showdown at UFC 245, Poirier jumped in offering to fight Ferguson if Nurmagomedov doesn’t take it.

If he can’t make it. I can,” Poirier posted in response to Ferguson’s tweet.

Ferguson (25-3 MMA, 15-1 UFC) is one of several names Poirier (25-6 MMA, 18-6 UFC) has shown interest in fighting. He also called out former featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor for a rematch, exchanging in a brief back and forth. McGregor responded reminding him of the first time the two fought, when “The Notorious” scored a first-round finish over Poirier at UFC 178.

Poirier, a former interim lightweight champion, failed to unify the lightweight titles in a third-round submission loss to Nurmagomedov at UFC 242 earlier this month. It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions for “The Diamond,” who was down, but clearly not out.

He apparently is anxious to fight again, and is targeting the top of the division in hopes to climb back to another title opportunity. After all, Poirier has been part of plenty bloody battles himself.
