Dustin Diamond dead: Mario Lopez leads tributes as Saved By The Bell star dies of cancer

Dustin Diamond has tragically died of cancer at the age of just 44.

His Saved By The Bell co-star Mario Lopez lead the tributes to him after the tragic news of Dustin's death was announced on Monday evening.

Dustin, who played Screech in Saved By The Bell, had been battling stage 4 carcinoma, which he had been diagnosed with only three weeks ago, before he died.

Mario said Dustin would be "missed by many" and said he would pray for the late TV star's family.

Sharing a string of pictures of them together, Mario wrote: "Dustin, you will be missed my many.

"The fragility of this life is something never to be taken for granted.

"Prayers for your family will continue on..."

Dustin's rep confirmed he had died in a statement, saying: "We are saddened to confirm of Dustin Diamond’s passing on Monday, February 1st, 2021 due to carcinoma.

"He was diagnosed with this brutal, relentless form of malignant cancer only three weeks ago.

"In that time, it managed to spread rapidly throughout his system; the only mercy it exhibited was its sharp and swift execution.

"Dustin did not suffer.

"He did not have to lie submerged in pain. For that, we are grateful."

Tiffani Thiessen, who played Kelly Kapowski, also paid tribute to Dustin on Instagram by sharing a photo of him.

She wrote: "I am deeply saddened by I the news of my old co-star @realdustindiamond passing.

"Life is extremely fragile and it's something we should never take for granted

"God speed Dustin."

Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who played Zack Morris, paid tribute to Dustin on Twitter.

He tweeted: "Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dustin Diamond, a true comedic genius.

"My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

"Looking back at our time working together, I will miss those raw, brilliant sparks that only he was able to produce.

"A pie in your face, my comrade."
