SET-listed Dusit International has signed an agreement to manage and operate the first internationally-branded hotel in the autonomous prefecture of Chuxiong Yi in the southwest of China.
The luxury hotel -- which will be known as dusitD2 Chuxiong, Yunnan -- is set to open in the second quarter of 2023.
Located just a 10-minute car ride from the Chuxiong high-speed train station, the hotel boasts 275 rooms, suites and villas of Thai-inspired hospitality as well as facilities including meeting rooms, both all-day dining and speciality restaurants, a full spa with wellness therapies, and various activities to promote physical and mental wellbeing.
"We are honoured and delighted to have the opportunity to continue our sustainable expansion in China by bringing our unique brand of Thai-inspired, gracious hospitality to Chuxiong for the first time," said Suphajee Suthumpun, group chief executive of Dusit International.
The hotel also aims to provide leisure travellers with an opportunity to explore the Chinese ethnic minority Yi's cultural heritage and learn more about their history.
The leading tourist attractions include Yi Ren Gu Zhen, where guests can experience dancing and music by Yi people, and the historic Guanyin Temple, which dates back to the Tang Dynasty and is located next to the hotel.
"DusitD2 Chuxiong, Yunnan's prime location, is ideally positioned to enhance the city's hospitality landscape and provide an ideal base for relaxing, exploring, conducting business, and discovering the distinctive art and culture of the Yi people," added Mrs Suphajee.
Xiong Jie, general manager of Chuxiong Rongda Real Estate Development Co, the company that Dusit International signed an agreement with, said he believed the hotel will raise Chuxiong city's profile in the global arena.
"By bringing Dusit's unparalleled brand of Thai-inspired graciousness to Chuxiong, dusitD2 Chuxiong, Yunnan, will set a new benchmark for service quality and excellence in the local hospitality industry, and will ultimately raise the profile of the destination to the benefit of the community at large."

Dusit now operates 10 hotels in China with over 20 properties in the pipeline.
