Durie's Boxing Gym enjoys sparring session with Meadowbank Amateurs in Edinburgh

Durie’s Boxing Gym enjoyed a recent sparring day with counterparts from Meadowbank Amateur Boxing Club in Edinburgh, after lockdown restrictions were eased in both areas.

James Paton and his team of boxers travelled through to the Rutherglen club where they enjoyed a good day, albeit under restrictions, with all conditions met.

The boxers were split into two sections, with the over-17s sparring outside, while younger boxers used the main Durie’s ring indoors.

Head coach Archie Durie said: “There was a fantastic buzz about the place, it was the first time a team of boxers from another club travelled to our gym since away back to the beginning of 2020, before Covid.

“The sparring itself was great to watch, very good, even spars.

“Everyone involved enjoyed their day, and learned something new from it.”

Archie says sessions are getting busier and recent changes have paid off.

He said: “There is a real interest from the public to get involved with their local community boxing gym, which we recently opened every morning, from 9am until 4pm.

“People can use the gym, the new weights section and we’re putting in 10 different type of punch."
