Durie's Boxing Club duo land wins at Springhill ABC home show

Rutherglen boxing coach Archie Durie says fighter Michael McMillan is “flying” after winning his third bout in a row at Springhill Boxing Club’s home show in Shotts.

From 13 bouts, two of Durie’s boxers were in action, with McMillan beating Cleland ABC boxer Kyle Wylie, a week after the 14-year-old won the 2008 54kg Scottish Development title.

Castlemilk fighter Lucas Ewan, 13, also beat Springhill lad Drew Campbell by unanimous decision at the Marbles Club in Shotts to mark a memorable day for the club.

Thrilled coach Archie Durie said: “Michael’s confidence is flying just now.

“He went straight out from the first bell to put the Motherwell boxer under pressure, forcing an eight-count on him early in the round.

“Wylie showed great resilience, trying to put himself back into the bout, with the third being his best round, but the decision came back 5-0 to the Durie’s boxer.

“Lucas kept this bout at long range, using his fast hands and feet to catch the Shotts lad time and again, coming in to take this bout by unanimous decision.

“It was a special night for the two boys, and there was an added bonus as I stood back to let my grandson Jamie Durie take control of both their corners.

“I was delighted with the way our two lads boxed.”
