Durham University investigating after 'racist' Kayne West video posted online

Durham University has launched an investigation after a video of a man with his face blacked up to resemble Kanye West appeared online.

An investigation was launched following claims that it had been posted by one of the university's students.

It has since been confirmed that the person featured in the video is not a Durham student.

However, the university said that an investigation was still ongoing.

In the video the man apparently dressed as Kanye is seen alongside a woman appearing to play Kim Kardashian.

After the video came to light, the university said: "Racism has no place at Durham University, and we believe everybody has the right to live, work and study in a safe, respectful and inclusive environment."

It added: "We condemn this post, which violates the values and behaviours that we uphold as a university community.

"Any of our students who have been affected by this social media activity are advised to contact their college or our student support and wellbeing team for help and support.

"We also have our Report and Support Tool where incidents may be reported, with the option to report anonymously.

"Our students are regularly reminded to display positive and collegial conduct, and exercise responsibility and respect for others, particularly through their social media interactions."

On Thursday morning, the university confirmed that the person in the post was not a Durham student, but that investigations were still ongoing.

A spokesman said: "We have investigated this social media post and it appears that the individual featured is not a Durham University student.

“We continue to look into the circumstances in which the video was posted.”
