Durham police officer attacked during chase with gang of youths

A police officer was left injured after being attacked during a chase with a group of youths.

The officer was pushed to the ground and injured during a struggle while chasing a group of youths in Sedgefield town centre on Friday night.

Two Special Constables were patrolling the area when they approached a group of 10-15 youths behaving in an antisocial manner who then ran off.

The officers gave chase, with one officer forcibly pushed to the ground and a struggle left the officers with cuts and abrasions to his arm and leg.

Durham Constabulary is now appealing for information to find the culprit.

A force spokesman said: “The individual believed to be responsible, who made off from the scene, is described as 15-17 years old, 5’9” with dark hair, and wearing a red, white and black jacket.

“If you have any information relating to the identity of the individual, please contact us on 101.

“We would also like to remind everyone that we are still in lockdown, and groups congregating in this manner is a breach of current regulations.”
