Durham hotel to launch BrewDog bar as a welcome-back attraction for customers

An outdoor BrewDog Bar is set to prove a welcome new addition in Durham next week as a city centre hotel prepares to reopen to customers.

The Durham Marriott Hotel Royal County, in Old Elvet, has teamed up with the brewery and pub chain - which runs a popular branch in Newcastle - on the pop-up bar which will be serving up a wide selection of beers on draught as well as in bottles and cans.

It will be sited on the hotel's Cast Iron Terrace where, from April 30, customers will be able to enjoy drinks as well as bar snacks, including a signature Cast Iron Burger, while taking in views of Durham Castle and the Cathedral.

The outdoor drinking and dining space is a first step towards attracting back guests as lockdown restrictions ease and it comes ahead of the unveiling of the hotel's new indoor Cast Iron Bar & Grill.

This is planning to open on May 17 in line with the Government's road map out of lockdown timetable and, having taken shape as part of an investment programme in the hotel during its closure, it will be specialising in steak dishes alongside a menu of craft beers, wine, cocktails and local spirits.

For now, the hotel is taking bookings for the Cast Iron Terrace where fans of BrewDog - creator of the Barnard Castle Eye Test beer named after the infamous lockdown visit to the area by Boris Johnson's former chief advisor Dominic Cummings - will find the likes of brand favourites Punk IPA, Dead Pony Club and Elvis Juice.

A Punk Alcohol Free IPA also will be available on a varied drinks list while the food menu will include such options as caesar salad and chicken, chorizo and avocado tacos.
