The statement said: “The safety of you, our loyal cocktail sippers and our fantastic team has always been our top priority, so following a positive Covid case in our bar and subsequent self isolation of team members we have made the decision to temporarily close with immediate effect.

“This allows us to complete a deep clean of the entire venue whilst keeping everyone safe.

“We are following all public health advice so that we can reopen as soon as possible to serve you your favourite cocktails, delicious food and all the good vibes whilst confident in the knowledge that our team is covid free and of course, that our bar is covid secure.

“If you have a booking that is impacted by this, we'll be in touch asap.”

The latest Public Health England figures show Durham City has a case rate of 2,128.1 in the seven days leading up to June 27 after 308 cases were recorded.

The city is currently battling an outbreak of the Delta variant which has caused cases to rocket.
