DuPage County has declared a disaster proclamation after confirming its first case of coronavirus.
DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin issued the disaster proclamation Sunday, putting in place an emergency plan and allowing additional funding to combat the pandemic, Cronin said in a statement.
“By proclaiming a state of emergency in DuPage County, we are simply continuing the next phase of our response to the coronavirus,” Cronin said. “This proclamation provides an avenue to access additional funding for planning and response efforts.”
On Saturday, Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced that DuPage County confirmed its first case of COVID-19, a woman in her 60s in a nursing home.
DuPage has joined a growing list of suburban governments to issue disaster proclamations.
On March 9, Gov. J.B. Pritzker made a statewide emergency proclamation, and President Donald Trump made a national declaration Friday.
