Duo slapped with fines for Perth and Kinross visit as coronavirus cases continue to rise

Two men were slapped with fines for travelling to Perthshire less than 24 hours after a travel ban was imposed on the region.

The 38 and 39 year olds headed to scenic Loch Tummel near Pitlochry with a view to camping out on Saturday, November 21.

But their trip took a turn for the worse when police officers spotted them and it turned out they have arrived from outwith Perth and Kinross.

The most recent data from Public Health Scotland up until November 21 suggests an infection rate of 107.9 per 100,000 compared with 94.8 the week before, with 164 new cases recorded compared with 144 the week before.

Mr Swinney added: "The first minister has made clear that the levels in Perth and Kinross are causing further concern and nobody wants the area to have to move to any further level of restriction.

“To avoid that, it is absolutely vital that all of us play our part in following the guidelines in place to ensure we minimise the risk of further transmission."
