Duo behind Didsbury Gin launches new range of rum products to capture ‘rumaissance’

The brains behind Manchester-based gin brand - and Dragons’ Den success story - Didsbury Gin are set to launch a range of rum products.

Alderman's Drinks, co-founded by Mark Smallwood and Liam Manton, announced it will launch its second brand, ARLU RUM, in March.

The duo, which launched Didsbury Gin in 2017, secured a £75,000 investment from Dragon Jenny Campbell in 2018 and has since secured a raft of listings in supermarkets and pub chains.

Mr Manton said the company were “looking for innovation”, particularly within the rum category.

According to the Wine and Spirit Trade Association, almost 35m bottles of rum - worth just over £1bn - were sold in 2018.

Mr Manton said: “We can’t contain our excitement any longer... ARLU RUM, our second brand under Alderman’s Drinks, has landed!

“Consumers and connoisseurs are constantly looking for innovation, more so than ever in the rum category as the ‘rumaissance’ shows no signs of slowing down, and this range of beauties won’t disappoint.”

The range is comprised of three flavours - Original Spiced, Passionfruit and Mango, and Blood Orange.

Alderman said rum is imported from Demerara Diamond Distillery in Guyana and blended with natural flavours and spices in Manchester.

The rum, priced from £23, will be available to buy in Harvey Nichols stores and online.
