Duntroon military college graduate denies rape charge

A Fijian national who recently graduated from the Royal Military College Duntroon has pleaded not guilty to a charge of rape.

Samisoni Loloma Baikeitoga, 23, was charged with the sexual assault just two days after he graduated from the college after 18 months of intensive training.

He was remanded in custody earlier this month and formally denied the charge in the ACT Magistrates Court today.

Mr Baikeitoga is alleged to have committed the offence in April, after a night out drinking with fellow cadets, court documents revealed.

The documents showed he was not arrested until this month because the alleged victim was not able to identify him.

Police plan to rely on DNA evidence collected from her and Mr Baikeitoga.

The documents also list a series of internet searches allegedly found on his phone by police, including "how to beat a sexual assault charge" and "sexual assault sentence ACT".

Mr Baikeitoga remains in custody and will return to court in September.
