Dunnes and Daybreak stores in Co Laois burgled as gardai hunt for culprits

A garda investigation is underway after two shops were burgled in Co. Laois on Tuesday night.

The two separate incidents in different towns occurred in the late hours of Tuesday night and gardai are appealing for any locals who may have seen anything.

The first burglary involved a Daybreak store located in Mucklagh.

Tullamore Gardai have appealed to local people who may have been in the area between midnight and 1.30am to let them know if they saw anything suspicious.

Meanwhile a Dunnes Stores in Rathdowney was also broken into and burgled at a similar time and gardai are seeking help from anyone who may have been in in the area between 12.30am and 1.30am.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardai in Tullamore and Portlaoise are investigating two separate burglaries that occurred overnight in their respective areas.

"The Daybreak Store in Mucklagh was broken into overnight.

"Tullamore Garda are appealing to local people who may have been in the area between midnight and 1.30am to let them know if they saw anything suspicious.

"Dunnes Stores Rathdowney was also burgled overnight and also similarly Gardai are seeking peoples assistance if they where in the area between 12.30am and 1.30am.

"If you passed by either locations and have dash cam footage please contact Tullamore Garda on 0579327052 or Portlaoise Garda on 0578674100."
