Dunham Massey has been closed for weeks - but people are still parking illegally and causing problems for villagers

Police have handed out a number of tickets to vehicles parked near Dunham Massey.

Officers say it has been “very busy” around the Altrincham beauty spot on Saturday with a number of vehicles “causing an obstruction”.

As a result several have been issued with tickets by both police and traffic wardens.

The National Trust house and car park remain closed, but visitors are continuing to drive to the area with some parking 'inappropriately' on adjacent country lanes.

All National Trust parks were closed in March, including Dunham Massey, after Prime Minister imposed the coronavirus lockdown.

The deer park and gardens were also closed off to the public.

Dunham Massey remains closed but people continue to flock to the popular beauty spot with many parking in the village nearby.

Trafford Council has warned that the parking is causing problems for residents.

A post on the GMP Trafford North Facebook page reads: “Please be aware it’s very busy around the Dunham Massey area today in terms of vehicles.

“We’ve just been down assisting and have ticketed a number of vehicles causing an obstruction including the one pictured! It was about to be seized but the owner came back to it before the recovery truck!!

“The local council traffic wardens are also in the area to deal with all the cars parked on double yellow lines.

“Please park responsibly and legally!!”

Information on the National Trust website states that the park will reopen between 10am and 4pm from Wednesday June 3.

A message on the site reads: “Important notice - We’re re-opening the car park and parkland at Dunham Massey. You will need to book your visit in advance.

“Check What’s On for the latest information and to book. You will be turned away if you arrive without a booking.”

Parking enforcement officers are patrolling the area handing out tickets to those parking unlawfully.

Trafford councillor James Wright, executive member for Housing and Regeneration, said: We want people to enjoy Trafford’s countryside and stay local for exercise, but in doing so it’s important that people park safely and with consideration for others.

"Our parking team continue to monitor roads around Dunham Massey to ensure regulations are adhered to."
