Dunham Massey forced to close as Storm Barra batters region with high winds and heavy rain

Dunham Massey has been forced to close as Storm Barra batters the region with high winds and heavy rain.

National Trust said the Altrincham gardens and park will be shut today (Monday).

It is 'likely' that popular beauty spot will reopen as normal tomorrow, though visitors are being urged to check before travelling.

An update posted on the National Trust website said: "Tuesday, December 7 - Dunham Massey will be closed today due to forecast high winds.

"At present we are likely to re-open as normal tomorrow Wednesday, December 8, but please check the website or social media prior to travelling."

This comes as Storm Barra moves in from the Atlantic over the UK today, bringing winds of up to 70mph, heavy rain and snow in some areas.

Torrential rain is forecast for Greater Manchester this afternoon and three yellow weather warnings are in place.

Dunham Massey is currently holding its Christmas 2021 event, which includes a light trail through festive gardens.

There are also food and drink stalls and fairground rides on site.
