Dunham Massey cancels Christmas lights trails amid Storm Arwen weather warnings

Dunham Massey has called off a series of its Christmas lights events tonight with Storm Arwen predicted to batter the region.

The National Trust says there may also be a delay in opening the site tomorrow following the high winds forecast tonight.

It's the second such attraction to be cancelled in the region today, with organisers of the festive Glow trail at RHS Garden Bridgewater in Salford also pulling the plug on this evening's events.

The affected trail times at Dunham Massey are at 7.45pm, 8pm and 8.15pm on Friday November 26.

Ticket-holders will be offered the chance to rebook for another date this year, join the priority booking list for 2022/23, or request a refund from See Tickets.

In a statement on Facebook, the Dunham Massey team said: "Tonight's Christmas at Dunham Massey trails at 7.45pm, 8pm and 8.15pm have been cancelled due to the adverse weather forecast for late evening Friday 26 November. Impacted ticket holders will shortly be emailed by See Tickets and informed how to re-book.

"It is likely that there will also be a delay in opening Dunham Massey on Saturday 27 November while our team conduct safety checks. Please check the website before travelling.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

Earlier time slots this evening are not affected. The team said cancelling the later sessions would ensure all visitors and staff are vacated well before wind speeds are predicted to exceed its closure threshold after 11pm.

The Met Office has warned that Storm Arwen could batter the UK with 'very strong and disruptive winds' tonight, with severe gales along coasts and over high ground overnight.

Snow may also affect some parts of Greater Manchester, with a yellow weather warning in place from 5pm today (Friday) until 10am tomorrow (Saturday).

A rare red warning has been issued for the east coast of Scotland and the north east, where gusts could be in excess of 80mph, bringing 'exceptionally large waves' that could cause 'significant damage' and pose a danger to life.
