Dunham Cider Press granted extended opening hours and hours to sell alcohol

A cider press in Trafford has had a licence application approved.

The owners of Dunham Cider Press at Dunham Massey, Altrincham, applied for a variation on their existing licence.

The new licence, now approved, has extended the hours the cider press is able to serve alcohol for and its opening hours.

Now, the press can open from 10am to 10.30pm every day and the sale of alcohol both on and off the premises will be possible during that period.

As part of their application, the owners, the Hewitt family, wrote: “The Hewitt family have been resident and working the land at Boundary Farm for nearly 100 years and continue to enjoy an excellent relationship with their neighbours.

“The Hewitts make and offer non-alcoholic fruit juices, and alcoholic ‘only full juice’ ciders and perries. They are planning to hold small scale tasting and food matching events on Friday and Saturday evenings to showcase the full versatility of cider.

“They also carry a small selection of local and fine produce including West Country ciders, kombucha, beers and ales. The premises also already provide light snacks, cakes, pastries, teas and coffees.

“The business is currently expanding its orchards to include rare and ancient species of fruit trees that were present within the estate orchards centuries ago. They intend to devise orchard walks to be enjoyed by their varied mix of visitors.”

They added: “Currently the proprietors find the current permitted hours too restrictive and would like to extend their niche offer to the public until 22:30hrs daily. There is no current intention to operate to the fullest hours permitted on every single day of the week, throughout the year.”

The extended hours are designed to remove that sense of restriction.

The council’s licensing committee agreed the variation of the cider press’ licence in full.
