Dungeons and Dragons film starring Regé-Jean Page and Hugh Grant starts filming in Ballintoy

An all-star Hollywood fantasy epic has begun filming in Northern Ireland.

Production started on Friday in Ballintoy for the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons movie, starring Bridgerton's Regé-Jean Page and Hugh Grant.

The fantasy classic, which is set to be released in the US in March of 2023, will also star Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, and Justice Smith.

Page set hearts aflutter as the mysterious Duke of Hastings opposite Phoebe Dynevor’s Daphne Bridgerton in the hit Netflix drama.

Chris Pine is known for blockbuster movies such as Wonder Woman and Star Trek.

Michelle Rodriguez is best known for her appearances in the Fast and Furious franchise, as well as other action films like S.W.A.T. and Avatar.

Justice Smith appeared in Pokémon: Detective Pikachu and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

It is understood that as of March 2, Hugh Grant is also on board, and rumoured to be playing the film's ultimate villain.

The film adaptation of the popular fantasy role-playing game will see Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley – who previously worked on movies like Spider-Man: Homecoming and Game Night – directing the movie and writing the screenplay, which is based on a draft by Michael Gilio.

The film was set to be released on July 23, 2021, however, the release date was subsequently moved to November 19, 2021, to accommodate the release of Mission: Impossible 7, before being pushed back again to May 27, 2022, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In April 2021, the release date was further delayed to March 3, 2023.
