Dungannon Swifts announce signing of defender Aaron Canning

Dungannon Swifts have announced the signing of Coleraine defender Aaron Canning.

Canning has been added to Dean Shiels' squad ahead of Saturday's Irish Premiership opener against Glentoran.

He joins goalkeeper Michael Quinn and defender Luke McKendry who have also joined the Swifts on the eve of the 2021/22 campaign.

Canning was transfer-listed by Coleraine at the start of last season but returned to Oran Kearney's side later in the campaign as the Bannsiders finished second in the league.

The defender had two spells with Coleraine and has previously played for Glenavon, Limavady United and Institute.

Meanwhile, Quinn (24) is the son of former Republic of Ireland striker Niall and joins Dungannon after spells with Bury and Cabinteely.

McKendry, 19, came through the ranks at Coleraine before moving to Swansea City as a 16-year-old.

He spent two years across the water before returning to Northern Ireland during the Covid-19 pandemic.
