Dungannon: Man dies in tragic factory accident in Co Tyrone

A man tragically died in a factory accident in Co Tyrone this morning, it has been confirmed.

Police said they attended the scene of a 'sudden death' on the Granville Road area of Dungannon shortly after 7:45am this morning (Thursday).

A spokesperson for the PSNI said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

The Health and Safety Executive said they had been informed of the situation and are currently investigating.

They said: “HSENI is aware of the incident at Westland Peat, Dungannon, and is making enquiries.

"Our thoughts are with the deceased’s family at this tragic time.”

It is understood that the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service dispatched two emergency crews and a doctor to the scene.

Following assessment and initial treatment, the man sadly passed away at the scene.

Sinn Fein councillor, Dominic Molloy said his thoughts were family of the victim.

Speaking to Belfast Live, he said: "It's an absolute tradgey. A man has gone to do an honest day's work and will not go back home tonight to his family.

"No one should ever go to their work and not come back, it is a very sad day for the entire community."

Following the tragic accident, MLA for the area, Rosemary Barton, added: “At this time of great sadness, following the tragic death of a young man as a result of an accident at work, my thoughts and prayers are with his wife, family and parents."
