Dungannon Academy student to feature on CBBC’s Best Young Artist competition

A Year 9 student at St Patrick’s Academy, Dungannon is set to take to the screen on Monday as part of CBBC’s Best Young Artist competition.

Talented artist Farragh McGeary, from Collegelands in Armagh, will appear on the CBBC show on Monday at 6pm to showcase her work

Farragh was recently awarded a prize at the Texaco Children’s Art competition and has had her work exhibited at the Royal Ulster Academy of Art in Belfast.

Her mum Eimear says she is very proud of the multi-talented Farragh, but could not give away any details of how Farragh performed in the competition.

“It was a competition for 12 to 14 year olds and this is the second year of it. After it screened last year there were thousands of entries,”mum Eimear said.

“Farragh took up art during lockdown really and we saw that she was developing a talent for it.

“She saw the show herself and seen that they were looking for new contestants, so she decided to enter herself, I didn’t even know.

“She went through three video interviews for it and then we got the news she had been selected to go over to Manchester and London on a couple of occasions for the filming.”

Eimear added the whole family is looking forward sitting down in front of the telly to catch the show on Monday. Well, everyone apart from one person…

“She enjoyed being part of it, Farragh would be a quiet girl and it took her out of her comfort zone a wee bit, meeting new people from all walks of life.

“She’s still in contact with friends she met ion the show so it has been great on that end.

“Farragh isn’t really looking forward to seeing herself on TV, like many ones her age she is actually dreading it a wee bit!

“The rest of us are definitely looking forward to it and we are all just so proud of her.”
