Dunfermline fugitive arrested in Brazil as armed police raid luxurious hideout

Pictures released by Brazilian federal police show the arrest of one of Scotland’s most wanted fugitives after officers swooped on a posh apartment in the beach resort city of Fortaleza.

James White was taken by surprise by the lightning raid – he is shown handcuffed in a chair as an armed officer stands guard.

White, 42, has his hands handcuffed behind his back as he sits in a chair wearing just a pair of shorts inside his plush flat in the capital of the northeastern Brazilian state of Ceara, reports the Record.

The dramatic raid took place on Friday with Brazilian media reporting on the police operation. One headline stated “Britain’s most wanted held in luxury flat in Fortaleza”.

White was hiding out in a plush apartment in the trendy Meireles neighborhood of Fortaleza.

UK authorities have previously linked White to organised crime allegations involving the importation of controlled drugs.

White was targeted as part of Police Scotland's Operation Escalade which focuses on serious organised crime with Scottish police liaising with their Brazilian counterparts to facilitate the arrest.

Several other wanted Scots are also being hunted abroad as part of the ongoing police operation.

A Police Scotland spokesman told the Scottish Sun: “We can confirm a 42-year-old man has been arrested in Brazil in connection with being involved in serious and organised crime in Scotland.”

White is described as ‘from Dunfermline’ in official documents dating from May 2011.
