Dunfermline boss Stevie Crawford hails Kyle Macdonald after being hit with injury woe

Stevie Crawford has saluted Dunfermline  debutant Kyle Macdonald but is now facing up to having crocked Aaron Comrie set for a spell on the sidelines.

Macdonald, recruited from Airdrie last month, was handed his first taste of action in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Alloa when full-back Comrie limped off midway through the first half.

Comrie’s hamstring problem could now hand Macdonald an opportunity to impress after plans to loan the former Motherwell defender back to Airdrie were put on hold by the enforced suspension of all football below the Championship.

Crawford said: “Aaron’s hamstring tightened up and it wasn’t even a case of being able to ask him to go on to see if he could run it off.

“We are just hopeful that by coming off he has probably reduced the risk of it being a longer-term one.

“It has given Kyle the opportunity to make his debut and I thought that he coped well because it is not easy playing against the movement that Alloa have got.

“It is great for him to make his debut in a winning team.”

The Pars sit second in the table, 11 points leaders Hearts who face managerless Inverness on Friday.

Record Sport revealed on Monday John Robertson is taking time away from the Tulloch Stadium because of bereavement.
