Dune Awakening multiplayer guide – How to play with friends

The world of Arrakis is divided into different servers based on major regions in Dune Awakening. To play together with your friends, there is a bit of work to be done. Thankfully, the process is straightforward enough.

How to play with your friends in Dune Awakening

As of writing, Dune Awakening is only available on PC and Steam. Here's how you can play with your friend.

  • Add your friend on Steam. While this step might not be mandatory, it makes the entire process of playing together relatively easy.
  • Go to the Friends tab on Steam and select Add a Friend.
  • Copy your Friend Code and send it to your friend. Alternatively, you can enter your friend's code to add them to your Steam friend list.
  • Once you're added, you'll automatically appear on each other's Friend Page inside the game.

Here are some additional points to remember if you want to play with your friend.

  • Make sure that the two of you are playing on the same server. This makes it extremely easy for you to play together and get the full MMO experience. You can build bases on the same server and join each other's adventures, and there will be zero restrictions.
  • If you're on different servers, you can still visit each other. However, the visiting person won't be able to build on a different server. You can still build on your friend's base if they permit you, but in an extremely limited fashion. Again, this is why it's better to coordinate and create your bases on the same server. When you're trying to visit your friend's server, you might have to wait in a queue if the servers are full or nearly full.

Dune Awakening also offers private servers for players to rent. You and your friends can rent a server from the available providers and play on it together. In that case, all of you will require the password applicable to the server. Private servers have shared elements like the Social Hub and Dark Forest, but you can fine-tune certain features like permanently disabling Sandstorms.
