Dundonald Highland Games team announced

This year’s historic Dundonald Highland Games team has been announced.

Chieftain for the 30th anniversary event will be the Captain Kevin McAulay – a member of 1st Dundonald Boys’ Brigade for 46 of its 50 year history. He became an Officer at the age of 18 and has held the responsibility and honour of being Captain for the past 15 years. Kevin, a joiner to trade, is renowed for using his skills and craftsmanship to good use in the community.

He now encourages many young boys to play chanter, pipes and drums through weekly tuition.

Kevin’s dream is to finally have 1st Dundonald BB’s Pipe band established. He dedicates many voluntary hours to the boys of the village and his reward is to see the boys’ progress in life knowing in a small way he has given them a guided hand. Queen for this year is Rebecca Stevenson and her attendants Holly Heron and Lily Mark. Rebecca, Holly and Lily are in Primary seven at Dundonald Primary School. Junior Chieftain is eight-year-old Cameron McFarlane who will lead the Street Procession on Games Day.

A full week of entertainment is planned prior to the Games starting on Sunday, July 28 with a Teddy Bear’s picnic at Dundonald Castle from 12:30pm.Dundonald Games Chairperson, Elaine McClure, said: “Kevin has and continues to do so much for the village and we know he will be a fantastic Chieftain.”

The Highland Games takes place on Saturday, August 3 at Dundonald Castle.
