Dundonald crash warning as PSNI say road treacherous following ice alert

Drivers are being urged to take care after a crash this morning as an ice warning has left roads treacherous.

Police are at the scene of a crash on the Dunlady Road in Dundonald today, Friday, January 8, and motorists are being told to take extreme care.

It comes after the Met Office put a yellow weather warning for ice in place around Northern Ireland until midday today.

In a warning, a PSNI officer said: "There’s a traffic collision on Dunlady Road, Dundonald. Police are on scene and drivers are asked to exercise extreme care as driving conditions on the road are reported to be treacherous."

A Met Office forecaster said: "Sleet and snow showers will push across Northern Ireland from the north during Thursday evening and overnight into Friday.

"These will leave surfaces wet with icy stretches readily forming. Some snow is expected to accumulate with some places seeing 1-2 cm of snow even to low levels though many sites will see little lying snow. Above 200 m a few sites could see 5 cm or so though ice remains the main hazard."
