Dundee vs Ayr United OFF as Dens Park's waterlogged pitch fails inspection ahead of Championship clash

Dundee's clash with Ayr United is OFF after the Dens Park pitch failed an inspection ahead of the Championship clash.

James McPake's side lie seven points behind second-placed Dunfermline but have two games in hand to play.

They were due to face the first of those on Tuesday evening but the SPFL announced a pitch inspection for 12.15.

The Dundee pitch has been battered by heavy rainfall, with doubts over whether it would be playable.

After an inspection, the match has been postponed.

A Dundee statement said: "After heavy rainfall the club called for a pitch inspection to take place ahead of tonight’s match with Ayr United.

"A referee attended the Kilmac Stadium this afternoon and has called the match off due to the waterlogged pitch."

Ayr sit second from bottom in the Championship but in a tight division are only seven points off third place.

Beating Dundee could have lifted them eight points clear of Alloa, who take on Inverness in another Monday night fixture.
