Dundee United 'target' Motherwell skipper Declan Gallagher

Dundee United are looking to sign Motherwell captain Declan Gallagher.

The Scotland international, who has also been linked with a move to Celtic, is out of contract in the summer and is two games away from triggering a contract extension at Fir Park.

And The Glasgow Times reports that the Tangerines could be set to swoop with a lucrative deal for the defender.

The report claims United are looking to make Gallagher one of the highest paid players at Tannadice.

While a fee would need to be paid to take Gallagher to Tayside this month, Micky Mellon's side may opt to secure his services on a pre-contract agreement.

Dundee United boss Micky Mellon is reportedly a fan of Gallagher's (SNS Group)

Earlier this month Gallagher was linked with a 'dream move' to Celtic, where he started his career as a youth, and clubs down south including QPR and Cardiff have also been potential ports of call for the 29-year-old.

Motherwell gaffer Graham Alexander said last week that he is yet to speak to the current squad about their contracts.
