Dundee United star held in 'money laundering or fraud probe after £150,000 seized'

Dundee United striker Osman Sow was held by police in his native Sweden after allegedly being found with tens of thousands of pounds in cash in his possession.

The 28-year-old was stopped by officers along with another person at Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport last Saturday.

After being interrogated, they were both released.

A police spokesman said yesterday: “The money was seized. They are both accused of fraud and/or money laundering.

“The investigation is ongoing, where the most important question to determine is where the money comes from.”

A spokesman for the Scots Championship club refused to comment. Sources claimed Sow and his companion had up to £150,000 worth of notes in their possession – though this was disputed by others.

One United insider told us: “The figure involved is also far less than what is being bandied about – it’s more like about 10 per cent of that figure.”
