Dundee United sign St Johnstone legend David Wotherspoon to aid promotion fight

Dundee United have confirmed the signing of St Johnstone legend David Wotherspoon to aid their fight for promotion.

The Canadian international has completed a switch to Tannadice after playing at Inverness Caledonian Thistle since October.

Wotherspoon has penned a deal to the end of the season, where he will look to secure promotion to the Scottish Premiership with his new side.

The 33-year-old throughout a remarkable ten-year stint with his boyhood club, St Johnstone, played a major role in three domestic cup triumphs, recorded multiple top-six finishes and turned out for the Perth Saints in European competition on 15 occasions.

Furthermore, he sits fourth in the all-time St Johnstone appearance charts, behind Liam Craig, Murray Davidson and Steven Anderson, whilst ranking in the top ten for both goals and assists.

Adding a wealth of experience to his midfield options for the remainder of the season, United manager Jim Goodwin commented: "David is a fantastic, seasoned professional who brings added quality at the top end of the pitch.

"If he can match the number of goals and assists he contributed during his time at Inverness, he will be invaluable for us."

Wotherspoon himself added: "I'm delighted to get things sorted and I can't wait to get started. Where United are in the table, challenging to get back into the Premiership, coupled with the size of the club and the fanbase made it an easy decision to come to Tannadice.

Hopefully, I can bring success here by contributing with goals and assists to get us across the line. I love getting my hands on silverware so getting promotion is something I want to add to my CV!"
