Dundee United sign Declan Gallagher from St Mirren

Declan Gallagher has completed his move from St Mirren to Dundee United.

The 32-year-old has joined the Tannadice club on a two-year deal, signing for an undisclosed fee.

Jim Goodwin has moved to bolster his defence ranks with the former Scotland international as they gear up for their tilt at the Championship title.

He becomes the club's seventh summer signing, as they aim to earn promotion back to Scotland's top flight at the first time of asking.

Goodwin said: "The right side of our defence was a position that we felt we needed to strengthen and when we heard about Declan's availability, it was a no-brainer.

"He's a very experienced defender who has played the majority of his career in the top flight and was involved with the national team recently so it's a great coup for the club."

Gallagher began his career with Celtic, winning the Scottish Youth Cup as a 19-year-old, before making his first steps into senior football with Clyde.

He also turned out for Dundee and Livingston before plying his trade at Motherwell.

It was here that he was handed the captain's armband during his two seasons at Fir Park.

The powerful centre-back also earned international recognition during that time, with Steve Clarke calling him up to his Scotland national team set-up.

He moved on to Aberdeen, where Jim Goodwin worked with him for a brief spell, before eventually moving to St Mirren.
