Dundee United launch Mark Connolly probe after coronavirus guidelines breach accusation

Dundee United have launched a probe into accusations that Mark Connolly has broken COVID-19 guidelines.

A Dundee taxi driver has reported the defender for allegedly being abusive and not wearing a face covering in his cab after a night out at a city bar.

United are looking into the claims although no Return to Play procedures have been breached as the first-team squad have been given time off.

Connolly appeared 'unwell', according to the taxi driver (SNS Group)

Micky Mellon’s first-team squad have been off since Saturday’s defeat to Kilmarnock and are not due to return to training until Thursday.

United sporting director Tony Asghar said: “We have made aware of the claim and we are looking into it.”

The players will all be tested for Coronavirus on their return to training.

Celtic’s Boli Bolingoli has been banned for three games with another two suspended after he headed to Spain and returned without quarantining.

Eight Aberdeen players have also been fined and reprimanded by their club after they broke the COVID-19 guidelines on a night out.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon put Scottish football on a yellow card after those incidents, but this latest incident, if it turns out to be true, has happened with the domestic game shutdown for international fixtures.
