Dundee United in bid to stop Rangers using St Andrews training base as Steven Gerrard eyes pre season change

Dundee United are trying to stop Rangers from muscling in on their St Andrews training facility.

Steven Gerrard ’s side are looking at options for pre-season as their planned trip to Portugal looks set to be wrecked by the current Covid-19 travel restrictions.

The University of St Andrews sporting complex is an option the champions are looking at for later this month.

United have a long-term contract with the university and use that as their daily training base.

The Tannadice club are unhappy that one of their rivals want to come in and use some of the same facilities and be potentially training on neighbouring pitches.

United are also set to play Gerrard’s side on the second day of the season at Tannadice.

There are also security concerns.

Fans can easily access the training camp and there is a long-running rivalry between the two clubs.

United feel it would be an unwanted headache for the university and both clubs as they try to step up their pre-season preparations.

New United boss Tam Courts (SNS Group)

The Tannadice side are back testing just now and new boss Tam Courts will return to pre-season with his squad on Monday.

English clubs including West Ham United and Leicester City are both set to use the university’s facilities over the coming weeks.
