Dundee United hopeful Motherwell star will make Tannadice move this month as boss makes enhancement statement

Dundee United are hopeful that Tony Watt will swap Motherwell for Tannadice this month after he signed a pre-contract.

The Steelmen as it stands will lose their top scorer in the summer after he signed a deal to join Thomas Courts' side for next term.

Watt joined Motherwell in 2020 and quickly became a fan favourite in claret and amber, but he's set to join one of their Premiership rivals.

Both Dundee United and Motherwell are negotiating to see whether a deal to take him to Tayside can be done this month, and according to Sky Sports, the Tannadice club are 'hoping' that can happen.

Courts said: "We have been looking at what we need in terms of bolstering our attack.

"Initially, we thought for the summer that as much as Tony has had a lot of clubs, he has been successful at a lot of them in terms of his general play.

"He's now at a stage in his life that he knows what he wants from his profession and he knows who he is as a player. He appears to be in a rich vein of scoring form.

"He enhances what we want to do in terms of our style of play. In the summer, we are excited to have him, but we recognise he's someone else's player just now."
