Dundee United face fresh Omicron blow as threadbare Tannadice squad stretched for Hibs clash

Dundee United have been rocked by fresh Covid problems ahead of their 2021 Premiership finale with Hibs.

The Tangerines faced Rangers at Ibrox last weekend with a depleted team after positive Covid tests came back to Tannadice.

The threadbare squad were eventually fired down by a James Tavernier penalty in the closing stages of the clash at Ibrox.

However, Tam Courts faces another selection headache as the virus rips through the squad before the Boxing Day clash.

More staff and players have returned positive tests before they host Shaun Maloney's side in the final fixture before the rearranged winter break.

With 10 academy kids filling out the squad for the clash in Govan the United squad could be pushed to breaking point.

SPFL bosses will insist that Sunday's match goes ahead as scheduled so long as Courts has 13 fit players at his disposal from across the club’s first and youth team squads.

St Mirren faced a similar issue ahead of their stalemate with Celtic.

Jim Goodwin was forced to cobble together a squad for the clash in Paisley with players recalled from Lowland League loans and the club youth academy.
