Dundee United complete Scott McMann deal as Hamilton boss pays tribute to "great servant"

Dundee United have confirmed the signing of defender Scott McMann from Hamilton Accies.

Lanarkshire Live Sport revealed earlier the player was undergoing a medical and the 25-year-old has now sealed a move north on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Hamilton Accies boss Stuart Taylor has paid tribute to the right-back, who played his final match for the club in Saturday's 2-1 win at Queen of the South.

He said: "Scott has been a great servant for the club.

"In the week or so I was working with him, he was a model professional.

"The DNA of Scott is what you look for in a left-back and the club have done good business in bringing in Kieran McDonald, so we have that back up straight away.

"Everyone wishes him well, he deserves his move and we wish him every success at Dundee United.

"I'm sure he will do well for them and he is more than capable of playing at that level, as he has shown in his time here.

"He will always be welcome at any games in the future or to pop in to see the lads."

McMann had been with Accies for 13 years, having worked his way up through the club's youth academy.

And Taylor added: "It typifies what Hamilton is all about.

Hamilton's Scott McMann holds off Morton's Gozie Ugwu as the sides clashed at New Douglas Park (SNS Group)

"They bring through young players and when the time is right they don't stand in anyone's way of a move."

United revealed McMann will wear the number 33 jersey for the Tangerines.

Speaking to DUTV, Scott said: "When I first heard the club was interested, I was excited by it and to finally get it done is brilliant. It's a massive club with a great fan base and a great history when I heard they were interested I was all in, I just felt like it was the next step in my career.

"A strength in my game is getting forward and creating chances for strikers with crosses and set pieces so, hopefully, I can bring that to this club.

"When I spoke to the Gaffer he laid out the ambitions for the club and the plans he had for me at the club I was excited by that and it was a no brainer for me moving forward.

"I can't wait to play in front of the fans here when the stadium is full."

Head Coach Tam Courts added: "Scott is a player who has been on our radar for a while and he will bring real quality in the wider areas.

"His delivery is first class, he has a lot of experience of the Scottish Premiership he will be a great addition to the squad."
