Dundee United chief Mal Brannigan departs Tannadice following Premiership return

Dundee United have confirmed the departure of managing director Mal Brannigan with immediate effect.

The former Dundalk CEO was appointed in January 2019 and assumed control of the day to day running of the club, with a focus on the business side of the operation.

He presided over a significant spend on Robbie Neilson's playing squad and although defeat in the play-offs against St Mirren halted their rise to the top flight last term, they have now been promoted after the league was finished early due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

American owner Mark Ogren thanked the Yorkshireman for his work in making the Terrors fit to compete at the top level again after four years in the Championship.

He said: "Since taking over the club, we have seen extremely positive changes of which Mal has been at the forefront.

"We would like to thank Mal for his work during his time as Managing Director and we wish him the very best."

Brannigan himself thanked Ogren and the fans for supporting him during his spell at the helm.

He said: "It has been a huge pleasure to have been a part of Dundee United 's return to the Scottish Premiership. I wish the club nothing but success.

"I would like to thank Mark, Scott and the Board for their support and guidance during my time at Tannadice.

"I would also like to extend my gratitude to the staff at the club who have worked extremely hard to achieve our goals and to the supporters who care so much for their club. Enjoy the Premiership."
