Dundee United and Rangers stars 'stand side by side' says Micky Mellon as players lead call to not take the knee

Micky Mellon revealed that his Dundee United players decided not to take the knee - in a show of support to Glen Kamara and the other Rangers players who have faced racial abuse this week.

United's squad discussed the issue as a group and believed they had to do something different.

Racism has again been brought to the forefront with the alleged abuse aimed at Kamara and then some of his team mates on social media after their Europa League exit to Slavia Prague.

Mellon said: “It was a decision by the players and I fully backed them on it.

“They wanted to stand side by side with their playing mates in the Scottish Premiership.

“They wanted to show their support for the players at Rangers, they feel not enough is being done.

“And taking the knee has just become a gesture.

“So they wanted to take a stand to say they want more done.

“We have lots of different cultures in our team, and we wouldn’t accept that here. It’s 2021, let’s move on.”
