Dundee Stars make Ukraine appeal as they send up Noughties music hits

Dundee Stars has marked its upcoming "throwback" match with a hit-laden musical tribute to the Noughties - while also expressing solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

The ice hockey team, based out of Dundee Ice Arena, released a video last night showing the team miming along to the likes of the Black Eyed Peas, Wheatus and Enrique Iglesias.

Forward Craig Garrigan kicks off proceedings with Let's Get It Started, followed by Toms Rutkis belting out loser anthem Teenage Dirtbag.

Connor Sills, Kyle Haas, Adam Morrison and Drydn Dow then send up Enrique's Hero before defender Michael Poirier and forward Charlie Combs trade raps on Eminem hit Lose Yourself.

The lads even manage to send up some of the tropes of 2000s-era music videos - from bucket hats to dramatically lit power ballads.

But the clip ends on a poignant note as the entire team sings along to the Black Eyed Peas' Where Is The Love? while holding the Ukrainian flag.

Viewers are then encouraged to donate to Unicef's emergency fund supporting families displaced by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The video earned a rapt reception from Stars fans posting on Facebook.

Louise Lumsden said: "Ahaha this is brilliant. What an effort...some pop stars in there."

Alastair Brookes added: "So proud to be a fan of this club and be part of it’s amazing journey!"

The throwback night has become a fixture in the Stars calendar as they compete in the UK's Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL).

In the past the team has paid tribute to the hits of the 80s and the 90s with clips set to the likes of Wham and the Backstreet Boys - wearing era-inspired hockey shirts to match.

Tickets are on sale now for Friday's Noughties throwback match against Coventry Blaze, which begins at 7.30pm.
