Dundee’s Wellgate Shopping Centre is to be sold at auction next month.
The iconic retail hub has a guide price of £500,000 and is being sold with its 583 space multi-storey carpark.
It has 76 retail units over three floors - including B&M, Burger King and JD Gyms - and the seller - Acuitus - claims it generates a gross annual income of £1,341,000.
Mhairi Archibald of Acuitus said: “Opportunities to buy a prime retail centre in a Scottish city are few and far between.
"The much-loved Wellgate Centre is one of two main shopping centres in Dundee and is ideally located in the prime retail pitch on the north side of Panmure Street at its junction with Murraygate.
“It’s the perfect Christmas gift for an investor ahead of the busy January sales period.”
The centre was constructed in the mid-1970s and was named after the thoroughfare it replaced.
It follows the traffic flow of the original Wellgate, which became a street which ended at the junction of the Murraygate and Panmure Street - the two entrances to the Wellgate Centre are at the same locations as those of the original street.
The 'gate' in Wellgate comes from the Old Norse word 'gata' meaning road or street and has the same origins as the word gait meaning 'to walk'.
The street was referred to as 'Wellgate' because it led to a well at the foot of the Hilltown.
The auction will take place at 1pm on December 13th and will be broadcast via livestream on the Acuitus website with bidding online, by telephone and by proxy.
