Dundee need penalties to beat Cove Rangers as Oan Djorkaeff grabs first St Mirren goal - Betfred Cup round-up

Dundee needed penalty kicks to earn a bonus-point against Cove Rangers after a dull 0-0 draw.

The SPFL new boys will be the happier side with the result despite the penalty defeat in a game of little quality.

The spot-kicks weren't much better either as Cove failed to convert three and Dundee missed two.

Paul McGowan netted the winner after former Dundee youngster Daniel Higgins had missed.

Only two top flight teams were in action with Hamilton travelling to face Clyde and St Mirren hosting Edinburgh City.

Accies were comfortable 3-1 winners with Blair Alston grabbing his first goal for the club.

Scott McMann had given Accies the lead before Alston doubled the advantage just after half time.

Kristoffer Syvertsen made it nervy during the second half but Lewis Smith sealed the win late on.

St Mirren had the son of a World Cup winner to thank for their win as Oan Djorkaeff netted a late penalty.

League Two Edinburgh City had kept their Premiership rivals at bay until Paul McGinn was fouled late on.

Djorkaeff stepped up to slam home on his first start for the club and secure Jim Goodwin's first win as manager.

The other two games saw one side score six. Dunfermline thrashed Albion Rovers with Kevin Nisbet netting a hat-trick, Kyle Turner grabbed two and Aaron Comrie added the other.

Abroath also scored six as they battered Stirling Albion.

It was doubles for Greig Spence and David Gold while Colin Hamilton and Michael McKenna also scored.
