Dundee Council’s new Children and Families’ Services boss unveiled

Dundee City Council has unveiled its new head of Children and Families’ Services.

Audrey May, the current Head of Education, has been appointed as interim Executive Director of its Children and Families Service.

Current Executive Director Paul Clancy will retire at the end of the year after nearly five years in the post.

Mrs May was appointed to the role of Head of Education in 2017, having previously served as a head teacher in Perth & Kinross and Fife. She also worked with Education Scotland.

Mrs May, a native of Dundee, began her teaching career in the city.

She said: “I am honoured to be taking on the position of executive director.

"The response of our children and families service to the pandemic shows the dedication that will be vital in taking us forward and delivering better outcomes for all children and young people across Dundee.

“We have committed teams that are working hard every day and it will be a privilege to lead this service following the many achievements of Paul Clancy.”

Councillor Stewart Hunter, convener of the children and families service committee, said: “I would like to congratulate Audrey May on what is an excellent appointment.

“I look forward to continuing our efforts on behalf of the children, young people and families of this city.

“Paul is leaving having developed the council’s children and families teams into a joined-up service that is looking forward to the future.”
