Dundee City Council confirms waste handling and cleaning employees will strike next month

Dundee City Council has confirmed it has been ‘issued with notice’ that strike action will take place across the city next month.

Employees who are Unite the Union members will walk out on Monday 8th November.

The strike will impact on the city’s waste services & street cleansing services and will last a week until the end of play on Sunday 14th November.

A spokesman said the council is focused on minimising the disruption to waste collection services, including trade waste, during this period.

The industrial action relates to national pay negotiations and it is understood that COSLA remains in a constructive dialogue with employee representatives.

The spokesman explained that residents will be made aware of any future developments on changes to the city’s services at the earliest opportunity via the Dundee City Council website here and social media feeds.

The confirmation of strike action came this afternoon as the council apologised after experiencing major problems with its IT network and telephone services.
