Dundee boss James McPake's trial over homophobic abuse claims adjourned again

Dundee FC manager James McPake’s trial over allegations of homophobic abuse has been adjourned amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The former Hibs player denies a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour against two men, aggravated by prejudice relating to sexual orientation, at a bar in Dundee.

His former teammate and current Forfar Athletic player Gary Irvine denies headbutting one of the men in the face during the same alleged incident.

The alleged fracas is said to have taken place at The Braes, on Perth Road, on 16 October last year.

McPake, 35, and Irvine, 34, had been playing together for a Dundee XI side in a testimonial match against Lochee United on the day the alleged incident happened.

Their trial has already been adjourned once in order for CCTV footage to be disclosed and further preparations to be made.

McPake joined Dundee from Hibernian in 2014 and went on to make 50 league appearances for the club.

Having retired from playing in January last year, he became the Dens Park club’s manager last summer.

A new date for the summary trial - which will be heard by Sheriff Lorna Drummond - was set for November.
