Dundalk vs Shamrock Rovers and Laois vs Cavan among sporting fixtures postponed due to Storm Ciara

A number of sporting fixtures across the country have been postponed due to Storm Ciara.

The storm hit in the early hours of this morning and brought heavy rain and 130km/h gusts in some areas.

All camogie matches have fallen to the weather, while a number of Lidl National football League matches have also been cancelled.

The Allianz Football League Division 2 match between Laois and Cavan and the President's Cup clash between Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers have also been called off.

An FAI statement read: "Following discussions with all parties this morning, the FAI, in conjunction with Dundalk FC, has taken the decision to postpone today’s President’s Cup final between Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers in the interest of safety for players, fans and all involved with the game scheduled for Oriel Park at 3pm.

"Discussions on a new date for the fixture will take place in due course."

The Division 4 fixture between Wicklow vs Sligo in Aughrim and has also been postponed, as has the Division 3 game between Louth and Offaly.

Horse racing is also off, with today's fixture at Punchestown cancelled due to "due to flash floods and 27mm of rain since 8.30am".

A  number of pitch inspections are to take place across the country this morning for today's football games, but Meath's clash with Mayo will go ahead in Navan.

Tyrone vs Kerry will also take place, but it has been moved from Healy Park to Edendork.
