Dundalk to face APOEL of Cyprus or Sutjeska from Montenegro if they beat Qarabag

Dundalk's European adventure has become a little clearer today.

Vinny Perth’s charges are gearing up for Wednesday’s Champions League second round, first-leg against Qarabag of Azerbaijan at Oriel Park.

Qarabag have reached the group stages - four Europa League and one Champions League - for the last five years running and are hot favourites.

But following today’s draw in Switzerland, the winner will meet whoever comes out on top between APOEL (Cyprus) - Sutjeska (Montenegro) tie in the third qualifying round.

But Dundalk’s win in Latvia last week ensured they will benefit from a Europa League safety net if Qarabag send them packing from the Champions League over two legs.

So the loser of the Dundalk-Qarabag clash with play the winner of the Slovan Bratislava (Slovakia) - Feronikeli (Kosovo) tie in the Europa League third round.

Shamrock Rovers - who host Apollon Limassol of Cyprus in Thursday’s Europa League second round - will discover their potential third round opponents later today.
