Dundalk seal Cammy Smith loan in hope of permanent signing in the summer

Dundalk will sign Cammy Smith on a permanent deal if he catches the eye while on loan until the summer.

The former Scottish youth international - once dubbed the ‘Bergkamp of Aberdeen’ by Craig Brown - likes to play behind the striker.

He spent a week with the Lilywhites on their recent pre-season camp in Spain and Vinny Perth said: "Cammy is an extremely talented player.

“He is a hardworking and extremely technical player and is on loan until the summer with a view to making it a permanent deal.

“We hope that happens because it will mean he has had a good spell with us."

Smith, 24, arrives from Dundee United having previously had spells with Aberdeen where he made 76 league appearances.

Loans with Dundee United and St Mirren followed but having returned to United last January, he started just one league game.

Smith said: "I had a proper look at the lads and they had a proper look at me in Spain which was really good.

"I'm here now to work hard and try and get back to enjoying my football. I like to chip in with goals and create chances so I'd like to think that I'll add something at the top end.”

Elsewhere, Finn Harps have signed former Irish youth international Leo Donnellan who had spells with QPR and Dagenham and Redbridge.
