Dundalk's Pat Hoban: We want to win trophies all the time

Pat Hoban says Dundalk have a thirst for trophies.

The league leaders got their treble push up and running by lifting the EA Sports Cup last Saturday after a thriller with Derry City.

After a ding-dong 2-2 draw, they were brought to penalties by the Candystripes but prevailed in the end and Hoban believes that trophy can be the catalyst for more.

Ten points clear at the summit, Dundalk know they will retain their league crown if they beat Waterford tonight and Shamrock Rovers at Oriel Park on Monday.

And ace striker Hoban said yesterday: “The main aim is to win the league and we've a good chance over the weekend to pick up more points.

“But it was great to get the trophy last weekend against Derry. It’s good to get silverware into the club early on.

“It continues a good streak that we’ve had and as players we want to win trophies all the time.

“I don’t think we played particularly well last weekend, but we still dominated the game.

“We had the better chances and it was nice to get over the line and take home the first trophy of the season.”

Skipper Hoban continued: “We want to keep winning and we've massive games coming between now and the end of the season.

“We want to win as many games as possible and we've chances over the next few weeks to do that.

“We have to make sure that we're ready, it’s not going to be easy but we're looking forward to it.”

Dundalk are back at the RSC tonight having stuffed Waterford 3-1 in last week’s FAI Cup quarter-final.

“Waterford are a good side and in the second- half last week they showed what they are about,” said Hoban.

“But we know what we have to do and we’ll go there with confidence. We’re in good form and hopefully we start the weekend with a win.”
